Clallam Republicans Make Choices for State Supreme Court & Other Races for Primary

Port Angeles - The Clallam County Republicans endorsed or recommended ten candidates across nine races on June 4th in time for the August 4th Primary Election. All Clallam County voters will see seven contested primaries for the US Congress, State Legislature positions 1 and 2, Washington Supreme Court, and the PUD Commissioner. In District 3, voters will get to weigh in on County Commissioner, before the race goes before all voters in November.

"This November voters in Clallam County have an opportunity to reject the status quo and start to repair our county and Washington State, " said Matthew Roberson, party chair. "However, change starts with the primary in August when we pull the lever for our qualified candidates to make it through to the Top Two. Our party isn't sleeping on the primary. We're knocking doors, making calls, and engaging with voters."

Two issues are especially significant heading into the primary. First, there are a total of four Supreme Court positions on the ballot, with a fifth already set in November. This means that Washington voters will have the incredibly rare opportunity of overhauling the court in a single election season. Second, there are several credible candidates running as independents in partisan races, namely Marcia Kelbon for state representative and Jake Seegers for county commissioner. No Republican candidates are running in those races.

Roberson highlighted the inclusion of independents in major races. "It is clear to me that the call for change isn't tied to a partisan label. The Democrats at the courthouse and in Olympia have pushed for more and more spending and families and businesses are struggling to pay for it. So you're seeing folks toss their hats in the ring who don't want to talk about national politics — they want to discuss solutions to local and state problems."

The GOP's recommended candidates are: Teresa Fox for Congress (WA-6), a dual endorsement of Eric Pratt and Aiden Hamilton for State Representative Position 1, Marcia Kelbon for State Representative Position 2, Jake Seegers for County Commissioner District 3, Scott Edwards, David Stevens, Dave Larson, and Todd Bloom for Supreme Court, and Rick Paschall for PUD Commissioner District 2. Following the August primary, Roberson expects the party to make recommends for the general election.
